Third finger, left hand... There is a lot of information, especially on American web sites (check out http://www.nodirtygold.org/), about sourcing responsible stones and metals. Chances are if you are reading this and getting married you have already chosen your own engagement gem. If you haven't, you might consider a second hand or antique ring. The energy is already embodied in the ring and you will not be impacting further on the environment by purchasing a newly manufactured one. Try antique shops or markets - or even pawn shops (the truly affordable alternative). For your wedding bands have you considered supporting local artisan jewellers? There are many about - in cities and the countryside - and your choice can make a difference! We have found a few UK-based suppliers:- Or Green Karat are based in the US, and have a very wide range of rings - including plain recycled wedding bands. Or have you considered a wooden wedding ring? This Canadian-based website (they ship to UK), recommended to us by our very first contributor, have some amazingly beautiful designs: and thanks to the Friends of the Earth Living Forum we have just found out about an English company, www.wooden.co.uk, based in the New Forest, who also make wooden wedding bands: Artisan and eco-jewellers - and especially those working in environmentally friendly methods and materials; we would love to hear from you! |

What about a beautiful crocheted ring or bracelet? We love the collection from Just Trade who we met at the Green Fashion Fair in Camden in January 08. | |||||||||||||||||||
